The zenith being Abtenau as a winter sports village was during the 70’s, when David Zwilling became world champion. Since this, times changed, but Abtenau is still well known. Alexandra Meißnitzer and Matthias Lanzinger represented Abtenau in the whole world.

But there are also very successful skiers from Abtenau in the disabled sports scene. Markus Ramsauer won the olympic gold medal in the downhill race and in the giant slalom during the 80’s. Moreover he became world champion. The disabled sports scene became stronger and stronger also because of the achievements of Matthias Höll. He was member of the Austrian National ski team, but had to end his carrer because of injuries in 2008. He was also austrian champion in tennis / amputated. The newest local hero in this scene is Matthias Lanzinger. We hope that he is able to have great success in disabled sports. As local hero he can make many FIS points to qualify himself for the Paralympics in Sotchi 2014.

Sportunion Abtenau guarantees professional sport events, because of its long knwow-how. There’s an excellent knowledge of the racing teams and of course brilliant infrastructure. Abtenau is able to bring the athletes in a fast and uncomplicated way on the top with its lift constructions. The brilliant infrastructure is also shown by the fact that the accomodation of the Austrian National team is near the target area.

Around 120 sportsmen will take part during the events, including Matthias Lanzinger, Reinhard Sampl and Danja Haslacher.

It is a privilege for Abtenau to be host city for events with disabled sportsmen. We try to guarantee that all athlets can be in public spotlight, with the effect that they can earn their own esteem.
