Europe Cup Disabled Alpine Skiing 2012 became a full success for local hero Matthias Lanzinger
It wasn’t easy for Abtenau, the host city of the alpine skiing events, because of the bad weather conditions. At the beginning of the week, it was very cold, the slope was hard and frozen. During the first inspection by technical delegated Miriam Muzio and racing chief Reinhard Ebner the slope was in a perfect condition, especially because of the work of Abtenaus lift company.
The events on Thursday, 2 x Super G, could be carried out, although that the raining became stronger and stronger. But nevertheless the slope became worse because of the falling snow during the following days. More than 60 volunteers tried to manage that the events could be carried out, but it was not possible at all. Therefore the athlets could just use the slope for training and free skiing.
Highlights of the week has been the two Super G events, mostly because of the fact that local hero Matthias Lanzinger could win both of these events. So, the cheering of Lanzingers Fanclub did make sense. Reini Sampl was the second athlete from Salzburg who achieved a good result in the category sitting.
Especially the receiving, which was designed from the musical school of Abtenau, on Friday was a great moment for the athletes coming from 19 nations. Two dancing acts and a solo of Anna Buchegger impressed the audience on Abtenaus market square.
Host city Abtenau has despite of the bad weather conditions a very positive resume and is already looking forward together with the ÖBSVB and other regional partners for the next worldcup disciplines (Slalom and giant slalom) in Abtenau 2014.
